The Coral Sea, Midway & Guadalcanal
The Backstory
This image held no notes, but the drama speak for itself: the surrender of three Japanese sailors. Beginning in May of 1942 with the Battle of the Coral Sea, and then the Battle of Midway and then Guadalcanal, the US gained momentum in the Pacific theater. Is this image from one of those events?

Artist’s Commentary
When I found this image it had not notes, and the context in which I found it had no clues. I’m certain the right collector will be able to discover a clue in the uniforms or setting to provide the story that this image deserves.
We chose to frame it with a larger mat to highlight the event. The photo holds remarkable details and is brilliant in its composition.
